African Arts

When you are choosing a decorating theme for your living room, bedroom, bathroom or kitchen, you should consider using an African theme. This theme is very popular, with its wide range of soothing color options and earthy fabric and art choices.

The history of African art is very rich, this art originated way back in 500 B.C., in a village of Nigeria. The ancient African art forms are mainly masks and figures, used in religious ceremonies. The material used for most of these African Art forms was wood. The wood was decorated with clay, shells, ivory, beads, metal and feathers. Apart from masks and figures that were used in religious ceremonies, these beliefs and ideas also found artistic expression in a number of utilitarian objects and tools of everyday life.

In Africa, traditional art is becoming a thing of the past as quickly as the continent changes. With the disappearance of traditions and other aspects of African culture, works of traditional African art are becoming more and more scarce. The art of previous generations was produced to meet religious and social needs that no longer exist within most groups of Africans today.

There are four common themes in African art that show African culture. These include “a couple,” “a woman and child,” “a male with a weapon or an animal,” and an outsider or “stranger.” African art is vast ethnic groups, which include the Big Five, beading and jewellery of high quality, sandals, and paintings. In all these arts and crafts you can clearly see the effort and time put into creating these skillful displays.
